Allegra Sleep was born in Nicaragua just as things were heating up and ready to erupt into a revolution. She was in her first group show at the American Embassy in Managua at age two. Allegra lived in Central, South America & the Caribbean until a move brought her to Taos, in 1990. Primarily self-taught, Allegra works in watercolor and acrylics; and often uses bright primary colors. Her work frequently references scenes from Latin America, as well as old black and white family photographs. Allegra is a Signature Member of the Taos Watercolor Society. She was a Finalist in The Artist Magazine's Annual Art Competition in 2013. The artist has been featured in Southwest Art Magazines three times from 2014 through 2018. As a "Taos IS Art Lamppost Banner" winner, her work was featured on a 30"x60" banner on Paseo del Pueblo Sur for six months in 2018. Allegra has shown and is collected internationally, most recently in shows in Paris and Germany. See her work in Taos at Las Comadres Gallery in downtown, Taos, New Mexico and on Facebook at "Allegra Sleep Fine Art". Contact the artist at
